BIO

Dr. Nicole Chávez has been empowering students and teachers to be active participants in the role of teaching and learning with our youth and community through OCDE Project GLAD® strategies since 2004.

Nicole holds a doctorate from the University of Southern California (USC) in Global Education, with her dissertation on Leading Instructional Shifts in Emergent Bilingual Education: A Principal’s Role.  Within this research, Project GLAD® was shown to have a positive impact on the efficacy of educators in attending to the needs of emergent bilingual learners and increasing language proficiency and academic comprehension

. Having had the opportunity to study educational settings and programs around the globe, including Finland, Hong Kong, Qatar and the United States, to name a few, Nicole learned the intricacies and interplay between global cultures and trends, educational systems, innovation, policy, governance, research and data. Nicole also holds an Administrative Credential and MA in Educational Leadership from California State Fullerton, and a Liberal Arts degree with an emphasis in Sociology from Loyola Marymount University.

She has been a Project GLAD® trainer with the National Training Center since 2008 and has supplemented her training and administrative skills with classes and certifications in Business Administration and Educational Psychology.

Nicole was the co-founder of a young adult movement in the San Gabriel Region of California that empowered young people to be more active in their communities and develop their leadership skills—becoming voices of change and encouragement for their peers in society.

Today, she continues these pursuits as the Administrator for the National Training Center, Project GLAD® at the Orange County Department of Education, where she oversees the implementation and strategic development of OCDE Project GLAD® National Training Center and Regional Training Centers across the United States, supporting Integrated and Designated ELD, the integration of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), social emotional learning and Universal Design for Learning. Nicole also is a contributing member of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion workgroup at OCDE. These experiences have led to a strategic effort to ensure that relevancy, impact and sustainability are a focus in the growth and evolution that is OCDE Project GLAD®.
