Kate Kinsella

Dr. Kate Kinsella and Associates
Teacher Educator, Author
Dr. Kate Kinsella’s 30-year career focus has been advocacy and curriculum development for youths from diverse backgrounds who will be the first family member to access higher education. She directed San Francisco State University’s Support Program for First-Generation college students and taught for 15 years in the University’s Step to College program, working directly in San Francisco Bay Area public schools teaching bilingual bicultural youths. A prolific curriculum author, Dr. Kinsella has written research-validated programs to support K-12 English learners such as READ 180, English 3D, Language Launch, and the Academic Vocabulary Toolkit. In the past decade, Dr. Kinsella has been awarded three large scale research grants from the US Department of Education to address effective practices to accelerate academic language and writing for K-12 English learners and youths from under-resourced households. Although she is an accomplished researcher and author, what fellow educators most appreciate is that she is a “teacher’s teacher,” working regularly with K-12 multilingual learners to refine her understandings, improve her practice, and support diverse students and colleagues.
