Dr. Barbara Nemko has been Napa County Superintendent of Schools since 1997. She received Digital Promise’s “Digital Innovation in Learning” award in 2014 and was named ISTE’s Public Policy Advocate the same year. She also received the Making IT Happen award from CUE and ISTE in March 2017, and the CCSESA Champion of Public Education Award in 2019.

Dr. Nemko is passionate about the potential for technology to revolutionize education and has helped spearhead a digital early literacy program offered at no cost to all families with preschool children in Napa County. She initiated the Napa County Reads Program for middle school in 2004 and continues today, and after seeing the film, Butter’s Last Meal at New York’s Socially Relevant Film Festival in 2020, has piloted a Napa County Views program featuring the film for high school students.
