Facilitator for PROMISE Initiative* pilot project from 2006-2009 for two Riverside County pilot schools at MVUSD. The pilot was designed to address the achievement gap between English learners and fluent English speakers. As PROMISE facilitator I had the privilege of working with the site administrators to develop and provide trainings for teachers on effective instructional practices for all students. At the end of the project, both schools successfully posted academic gains, most notably for ELL's, and African American students. During this time, I was fortunate to work with Dr. Laurie Olsen, well know researcher and author.
My experience in leadership and professional staff development, specifically within the area of supporting English Learners has led to providing staff development in SIOP - Sheltered English Immersion Protocol, along with training in Kate Kinsella Academic Language strategies, Frontloading for Academic Language Development, and Systematic English Language Development. . I am a trained Literacy Coach, Peer Coach, and BTSA mentor. Most recently, I was a project teacher for an I3 Grant for Long Term English Learners. Trained by Dr. Kate Kinsella on her instructional program English 3D, the program provided the strategies and skills for students to easily transition into reclassified fluent English proficient.
