I have been part of the English learner/immigrant/bilingual education movement for over five decades - as a researcher, an author, an advocate, a designer and director of model programs preschool through high school, and provider of leadership development and professional learning. I have directed research, policy and practice initiatives and organizations - and love talking about, hearing about, learning about what is happening in schools throughout California to address the challenges of providing excellence schooling for English learners/emergent bilingual students. I'm currently leading the Design Team for EL RISE! and offering professional development throughout the state on implementing the EL Roadmap policy.  I was co-chair of the working group that developed the policy, so being active in supporting educators to implement it now is very exciting. And I have several new publications: the book A Legacy of Courage and Activism: Stories from the movement for educational access and equity for English learners in California - and also two new Toolkits for Administrators on implementing the EL Roadmap.  Come to my session to learn about the book, and stay after if you want me to sign a book for you.
