BIO
For over 35 years, the OCDE Project GLAD® National Training Center has provided exemplary training for educators both nationally and internationally, resulting in students’ access to quality instruction and high-levels of success. Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD® ) classrooms promote environments that respect and honor each child’s voice, personal life experience, beliefs, language and culture. We cultivate the social emotional learning (SEL) competencies while building language, literacy and a love for learning.

The National Training Center works alongside schools, districts and educational agencies to identify needs and create customized supports for implementation, emphasizing sustainability to ensure all students get what they need. In working with educators on how to make content come alive through sketching, pictures, chants, and media with corresponding language, deep cognition and language proficiency is developed. The model is aligned to current brain, biliteracy, second language acquisition, and reading & writing research.

The OCDE Project GLAD® model has been proudly recognized as:
- a model of “Academic Excellence” by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Bilingual Education and Minority Language Affairs (OBEMLA) in 1998
- a model reform program by California Department of Education (CDE)
