Despite the well-established importance of oral language skills in later literacy achievement, assessment and progress monitoring of these skills has remained elusive. This workshop will provide early primary teachers with the hands-on experience of creating curriculum-based rubrics for progress monitoring the oral language development of emergent bilinguals in English and/or Spanish. By combining WIDA (World-class Instructional Design and Assessment), the ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California) and CA CCSS ELA/ELD standards, teachers will leave with a relevant assessment tool to inform instructional decisions.
