The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Mathematic adopted in 2013 placed new communicative demands on students that require the application of English language competencies for demonstrating mathematical proficiency. This presentation focuses on evidence-based instructional approaches and strategies for English Learners to improve their mathematical performance in a Spanish language dual immersion classroom. Special attention to the close relationship between language and math is discussed by examining vocabulary strategies and improvements in math performance on summative tests.
